A revolutionary night of music, dance and performance for Trans Day of Visibility

Prommunism is Ithaca DSA’s pro-trans, communism themed dance party.
With Trans Day of Visibility around the corner, we’re centering trans artists and fighting far-right transphobia with solidarity, community, and lots of dancing!
And our Prom theme? We couldn’t go for one of the corny high school ones, so we’re going with … communism!
Suggested donation for your ticket: $30, but pay what you can

Prommunism is about living out the spirit of "to each according to their ability, to each according to their needs". Assuming that we don't hit capacity before the event, you can buy tickets at the door.
Proceeds from this event will support both Ithaca DSA and Point of Pride. Point of Pride is a not-for-profit organization that provides financial aid and direct support to trans folks in need of life-saving gender affirming care. More information on this organization can be found here: https://www.pointofpride.org/

Bronwen Exter fronts a tight, original six piece band celebrating ten years together and a collection of new songs ripe for the studio and their fourth full-length record. Her songs move from spare to bombastic, poignant to raging, loving to joking to funereal.
The show will feature an opening set by songwriter Jonathan Spottiswoode, on tour from London, who was dubbed a "genius" and "downtown ringleader" by The New Yorker. Spottiswoode has released eleven acclaimed records and toured worldwide from SXSW and Lille Europe to Lincoln Center. His band has been profiled on NPR’s Weekend Edition and has been featured on the nationally syndicated radio programs XM Loft, World Cafe and Soundcheck.

“Imagine Hope Sandoval (Mazzy Star) covering Patsy Cline and a Hawaiian luau. That’s how Junkyard opens, but from song to song, while Exter’s vocals keep the Sandoval dreaminess, there’s a distinct musical change. “Monster’s” sultry waltz is a good candidate for a James Bond soundtrack, “Leave My Love Alone” has an Andrews Sisters harmonic sweetness, and “Covered Bridge” is a barefoot, country fair hoe-down. Variety is the spice of life, and she keeps things interesting throughout."
-The Big Takeover, Issue 72

“There is something fully numbing and stunning about Spottiswoode ... that freezes the brain much like eating ice cream too quickly. While one ponders influences such as Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen, these songs blissfully inhabit the spooky, the derelict, the tossed out and forgotten nuggets of human creativity and therefore, steer the listener towards territories that stir and titillate the underbelly of one’s mind, the deserted corners of one’s heart...”
